My Farewell to Last Chaos

Semphere's picture

First off, I've thought this over quite a bit, and it's time for me to move on. I've been re-reading all the nonsense in the LC forums, trying to learn as much as possible and determine my course of action. There was one post that I'd either not seen or only briefly scanned that caught my attention and gave me what I needed. I'd like to thank HunterHarpy's older brother for his comments, especially this one statement - "Think, does anyone with an accomplished, great life have time, or want to go on their level 100 Last Chaos character? Nope."

That statement alone speaks volumes. It's time for me to hang up my bow and move on. I've learned what I needed to learn, gained many new friends who will be with me for ages, and a few enemies who will vanish from my life simply by my quitting LC and moving on with life. I've decided that, instead of shooting for level 100, I'm going to be an accomplished person with a great life. Though I know this will not be beneficial for Aeria, I hope more people can follow my example. Making it to level 100 is for people who have nothing better to do. I have so many wonderful things to do in my life. I will not waste any more of it here.

I will be transferring all guild powers and inventory to whoever the guild wishes to step forward and assume my position. If nobody wants the job, we should hold a farewell party and give things away to our other in-game friends and allies. We'll continue to use our private and allied forums to communicate, and all of our guild who chose to continue playing will have the full resources of our guild at their disposal. Melanne, please start a thread for this selection process in our private forum.

As for my gaming activities, I'll probably just use our new game as a fancy chat program to keep in touch with my friends who have already moved there. Any guild members who don't have that game should post the private forums. Any friends who want to send me their contact info should do so within the next week before I stop checking my inbox. I'm not deleting Semphere, and I may pop in from time to time to say hello to old friends, but I doubt I'll ever go kill another mob anywhere in Iris.

And for any flamers who want to slander, laugh, claim victory, or whatever on this thread, please know that you merely prove my point and that of HunterHarpy's older brother by doing so. The more you cheer, the more you prove what haters you really are. Besides, I'm never going to read it. I'm not leaving because of any of your nonsense, either. I'm leaving because I choose to do so. There's so much more to life. Go live it.

Farewell to my LC friends,
good riddance to my enemies,
forever loyal to my guildmates,
Semphere

Ah, Semphere...

Should have, but I didn't see this coming. Echoing OSU's sentiments, I want to tell you to stay, knowing how much you've invested in the game, but can think of little holding any of us here. LC has become a chore for me. You guys, your company and your friendship, are the only pleasure I derive from it.

You know I'm never far away... still waiting on your new mic. ;)

More important things

One of the "more important things" that I have to do is work on Wayward Souls. After I'm 100% out of LC, I'll have a lot more time to dedicate to completing WS. It's not easy saying goodbye to Semphere, especially after 10 months of time and money going into building both character and guild. Still, all the ups and downs, the balancing issues, and the problems of LC have helped sharpen my vision of what Wayward Souls should be and, more importantly, what it should not be. I hope, for Aeria's sake, that they can turn LC into something worth playing for the remaining players. If not, then I hope those disenchanted with Aeria will find their way to the worlds I'm building.

So true...

It's probably clear that I've been off of LC for a while. My post that I was taking time off is perhaps a bit passive, I really was finding a lot more fun in GuildWars. If something occurs to me to say that isn't negative, I may make a good bye post, too.

But your comments are very true, Semphere. There's just too much unbalance and what I consider unethical treatment of players who are not part of the "in crowd". It's like High School all over again, only this time the rejects with no lives who spend tons of hours there are the ones being the nasty cliques.

I am really glad I stumbled into you and got into your guild. You're the kind of player I look for on the net. As I told another friend in RL, you can teach the commands, methods, and mechanics of a game but you can't really teach Ethics. Finding ethical players such as yourself make it worthwhile to play sometimes.

And I'm happy to see you joined our guild on GuildWars. My newest PC will need some help with missions, I'm developing her as very much a Support style Monk. So perhaps we'll throw in together on a couple of missions.

Friendships

We've all found a lot more good people out there by our time in the grind-pit known as LC. As OSUBeaver pointed out, we've all had a positive impact on a lot of people. I doubt I'll be doing much on guild wars, though, because I have to focus on more worthwhile endeavors than gaming. Toshiko is on the right track in life, and now I'm back where I need to be as well. I'm sure I'll be able to spare the time for a mission or two in Guild Wars on occasion; however, I won't be spending an enormous amount of time there. The friendships we've built have had games as a backdrop and common ground, and we should continue to play and have fun together when we can. Gaming has never been the only thing we had, though. Our strong commitment to ethics binds us. That's something more long-lived than any game.

... taking a cue from Kat and Al ...

if we're not doing missions, we can always do a dance party in the Guild Hall ... ;-)

Semphere's picture

But my mesmer is pre-searing!

Alas, my best dancer is stuck in pre-searing, so a dance party just wouldn't be the same. Lol. Anyway, if Guild Wars devs ever decide to enlarge the chat box or allow resizing, they'll have a chat interface 1000 times better than LC's. I'm a bit jealous, actually, of the chat system. The Wayward Souls chat system needs some revisions to its design. Guild Wars is a prettier chat application than Yahoo or LC.

Bellydance? :D

I can bring the drinks :P

No seriously, i think ill pay you guys a visit on GW soon, im a bit busy right now but i cant reject a party :P.
But i need to know where to find you all, so mel when you can send me an email telling me in what server do you guys play, the igns, guild and stuff like that.

Dancing

Elementalists have a belly dance style. Mesmers don't...;-)

But Rangers ... ahhh ... not sure how best to describe that. Perhaps "suggestive". Monks do an oriental kind of Tai Chi style dance.

Mixed feelings

Hmm... i dont know if im sad for seeing you leaving LC, or happy for knowing that i might see you in another game soon.
Im sure that LC wont be the same without you, and you will be greatly missed for those that had the chance of meeting you there.

1.8m mana

I still have 1800+ Greatest mana pots in inventory (restore 1000 MP each), and the only way to get them out of there is to use them. If I do play any more, I'll never again be out of mana. I may have a boring Saturday night or two with nothing better to do than burn through a few hundred thousand mana on demons to help guildmates and allies level if they're sticking around in LC. Still, my goal won't be in achieving anything but helping my friends. After all, there's no point in letting that 1.8m mana go to waste when I can use it to power level my guildmates. Of course, if the GM's can make the greatest mana potions trade capable, there's no need for me to even do that.

*big hug*

You will be greatly missed. By all those that know and respect you. (And possibly by the enemies, they'll have no one to make them look like idiots.)
